Frank Gonzales returns for his seventh solo show with Beals & Co.
A long-time colleague of Bobby Beals, Frank Gonzales returns to Santa Fe for his seventh solo show. A background in graffiti and a love of nature collide in Frank’s work, creating vibrant depictions of birds and botanicals. A native of Mesa, Arizona, Gonzales takes inspiration from various sources including books, the Internet, and photography to comprise and create his own imagery. Combining elements that would not normally co-exist
on the same plane, Gonzales’s work meanders between artificiality and realism, erupting with magnificent colors. Bringing attention to the minuscule and often missed elements of the world around us, Gonzales paints a world to pause on, and one worth returning to.
Nature’s Fragments marks Frank’s seventh show with Bobby Beals, after first being featured at Bobby’s former gallery on Canyon Road - the start of a highly successful relationship. As Frank notes, “This show is kind of nostalgic as the ‘lucky number seven’ and comes full circle to exhibiting on Canyon Road again where we started.”
In years since their first show together, Frank’s evolution as an artist has been impacted by returning to Arizona from New York, having a son, and starting the new chapters. “There are so many elements that have been influential to my work and many I’m probably not aware of. I guess that’s the progress of life. Plus, never stopping making art and letting it grow and evolve naturally.”
All are welcome to attend Nature’s Fragments, opening at the Beals & Co. Showroom at 830 Canyon Road in Santa Fe from 5-7pm on October 8. On view through October 21.
